Tarboro Scores 24 in 5th
Date of Event: June 2, 1951
1951 was not a good year for the Tarboro Club. They had a been so unsuccessful both on the field and at the gate that their parent club, the Philadelphia A’s, disowned them. On June 2 in that year, on the verge of extinction, the Tarboro Nine set a record that is likely to stand the test of time, for no team in the history of baseball had ever scored 24 runs in an inning before and none have since.
