An altercation between Pete Rose and Umpire, Dave Pallone, led to riotous conditions in Riverfront Stadium on April 30, 1988. Reds fans started throwing things at Pallone—baseballs, golf balls, marbles, cups of ice, along with all manner of garbage. First baseman, Keith Hernandez and third baseman, Howard Johnson even wore batting helmets on the field. Two players were ejected, and Rose was later suspended for 30 days and fined $10,000.
