Doug Clarey’s 15 Minutes of Fame
Date of Event: April 28, 1976
1976 was the year of the bicenntial in the United States and the 100th year anniversary of the National League. It was a year of celebration, even for no name rookie, Doug Clarey. On April 28 of that year, Doug Clarey hit an improbable pinch-hit home run that gave the Cardinals a 4-2 victory over the Giants. It was Clarey’s only moment at fame, as he was sent back to the minors just a few days later.
